While few people would predict back in 2016, that by 2017 former “Apprentice” star Donald Trump would be sworn in as the president of the country, within 12 months, on the 20th of January, Trump was officially sworn in as the 45th president of the United States.
While many citizens celebrated Trump’s victory, on the day of his inauguration, millions of Americans also took to the streets in order to protest Trump’s inauguration due to some of his divisive policies, which would go on to divide Americans in all 50 states.
More than half a million women march in Washington in order to support women’s rights
The day following Trump’s inauguration more than half a million women joined the Women’s March on Washington, as a way of fighting for women’s rights after Trump who has been interviewed making several sexist comments was sworn in as president.

Big time movie producer Harvey Weinstein is accused of raping over a dozen women
In October Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of raping and molesting over a dozen women, many of whom are well-known models and actresses. Some of the first women to speak out about Weinstein’s abuse include Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano.
By the end of the year, the #MeToo movement was founded, which encouraged women to share their own stories of sexual abuse, in order to show men like Weinstein that they would no longer remain silent. By the end of 2017 more than 30 high profile, men in various industries were publically condemned for their actions against women.
A lone gunman in Las Vegas fatally shoots 59 concertgoers
On the 1st of October, a lone gunman by the name of Stephen Paddock shot over 500 individuals who were attending a concert in Las Vegas, from his room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. A massacre which has gone down in history as one of the deadliest mass shootings in the last 50 years.
In conclusion, 2017 was a shocking year which most individuals didn’t see coming and included a mass shooting as well as a serious threat of nuclear warfare!
